About this test

5 min to complete
Available in EN and ES

Taking the Commercial Driver’s Exam at a DMV in Idaho can be an intimidating experience. There are a number of pieces of information that they will expect you to have available and will not let you proceed without them. Then there is the test itself, which can be a bit of a bear. The exam is 50 questions asked in a 60-minute period. If you get less than 80%, that’s just 10 wrong, and you will fail the exam. Unfortunately, you only get one chance per day to take the test, so if you fail, you need to find another day when it will be possible to drop everything and head to the DMV. To make sure you pass, study diligently with the official Idaho commercial driver’s license manual, and take our practice tests as much as you can. Our CDL General Knowledge practice tests will build your confidence and give you a feeling of exactly how tricky the questions can be. But before you even get to the test, assessors will need some information from you. Forget some part of your paperwork and you won’t get very far. They require you bring what is called a Medical Examiner’s Certificate (or DOT Card). You can only get one from a licensed medical examiner, as listed on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) National Registry. These prove that you are physically qualified to drive a commercial vehicle. Then you also need proof of permanent residence or citizenship status. And finally you need to already have a valid driver’s license. With all that together, and the knowledge that practicing the test grants you, you’ll be ready to go drive Idaho and make a career of it.

Enhance your preparation with our comprehensive General Knowledge test collection, tailored to cover all key topics of the CDL exam. For a complete understanding of the expenses involved, check out our guide on CDL license cost, and for a step-by-step guide to getting your CDL, visit our CDL license guide.
