    The Motor Vehicle Commission is in charge of tags, titles, registrations, and licenses in New Jersey. The MVC operates several types of facilities. Familiarize yourself with the facilities before you make a trip to a nearby office. Then, you can go in, conduct your business, and get out quickly.

    Motor Vehicle Agency

    New Jersey has Motor Vehicle Agencies throughout the state. These facilities offer registration, title, licenses, and IDs.

    These agencies are open:

    • Mondays/Wednesdays/Thursdays/Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
    • Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
    • Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

    Suspensions and Restorations (Full-Service Agencies)

    This is a full-service agency that also offers information about driving records, insurance surcharges, and points. It is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Stop by if you need to speak to an agent.

    Driver Testing Centers

    If you need to take a vision or knowledge test, visit one of the Driver Testing Centers. Then, after you pass your test, you can take your road test at the center.

    These centers are open:

    • Mondays/Wednesdays/Thursdays/Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
    • Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
    • Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

    Low-Volume Agencies

    Some of New Jersey’s offices experience a low volume. If you visit one of these agencies, you can expect to make it through the office much faster. The MVC keeps a list of low-volume agencies on its website. Check out the list to find out where you should go for your driving or motor vehicle needs. This is a great way to skip the lines.

    You can also make use of the online services. You can use the services to change your address, pay your restoration fee, renew your vehicle registration, order personalized plates, and more.
