- Perfect for first-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants, and those adding endorsements
- Based on 2025 MD commercial driver's license manual
- Triple-checked for accuracy
- Updated for August 2025
As a Class A CDL holder in Maryland, your primary responsibility will be to safely operate combination vehicles, such as tractor-trailers, across various routes. Before every trip, you’ll perform pre-trip inspections and ensure your cargo is securely loaded. There are plenty of job opportunities in the Old Line State. As a beginner, you could be hauling pallets of packaged goods from a warehouse to stores across Virginia and Pennsylvania. Every haul is different, and each one depends on you doing the job right.
That is why local companies only hire professional drivers. As you begin your learning phase, it is crucial to avoid rushing. Commercial driving cannot be mastered overnight, as this is a skill that can only be improved gradually. The Maryland Commercial Driver’s License Manual (Maryland CDL Handbook 2025) is an official resource published by the Department of Transportation (MVA). Please read the contents of this manual multiple times, and when you’re ready, you can use our practice tests to evaluate your knowledge.
Our Maryland CDL Class A Practice Test consists of 93 questions on the various aspects of commercial driving theory. Each question has multiple answer choices, but only one is correct. There are several features you can use to customize your testing experience. They are located in the test settings menu, along with a slider that lets you adjust the text size. You get unlimited attempts to practice as often as your schedule allows. If you plan to continue your training abroad, you can also access this practice test anywhere in the world. All you need is a compatible device and a stable internet connection.
The MVA is strict about the licensing process because safety and responsibility are critical in this job. You must pass two knowledge exams (three if you plan to operate vehicles equipped with air brakes) and meet several other requirements to get a Class A CDL. We’ll help you learn commercial driving theory, but you must put in the time and effort to become a successful driver in this field.
