If you’re in the market for a Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Endorsement added to your Alabama Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), then this practice test is for you. This test is one of two in our Alabama-specific suite of HazMat practice tests. The HazMat endorsement significantly expands your marketability and job opportunities and can lead to higher pay! By federal law, you must be a minimum age of 21 for this endorsement.
This valuable endorsement authorizes drivers to transport materials that the U.S. government has deemed hazardous. These materials range from explosives and certain fuel types to industrial chemicals, radioactive materials, and infectious substances. Rest assured, the most important objective of this process for endorsement is to ensure your safety and protect the people and environment in your driving area. That’s why there are multiple steps (that we guide you through) to obtain the HazMat endorsement.
The first requirement is to pass the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) fingerprinting and background check. The results can take weeks, so you’ll want to apply and then use that waiting time to practice for the second major requirement: the DMV knowledge test. The knowledge test addresses topics like federal regulations, substance handling, material packaging, quantity limits, and transport configurations for hazardous materials. You’ll need a score of 80% on Alabama’s knowledge test, which is made up of 30 questions (Alabama CDL Handbook 2026).

Questions are created and maintained by the Driving-Tests.org content team following our multi-layer editorial process and updated whenever the AlabamaDMV changes its handbook or website information. Official sources we check:
There are multiple industries in Alabama that require a Hazmat endorsement, including chemical manufacturing (Evonik Corporation and Huntsman), petroleum and energy (Alabama Gas Corp and Spire Inc.), waste management and environmental services (Southern Logistics, Inc.), and industrial gas. With such a lineup of companies in need, the HazMat endorsement can really boost your job potential.
Our online practice tests are strategically designed to present only the material that is relevant to the official DMV test and in a similar format. Our experts designed these practice tests to help ensure you pass your official exam on your first attempt, avoiding unnecessary delays and added fees. Once you have received your TSA clearance and feel prepared, you’ll visit the DMV with the necessary documents, pay the fees, and pass the test.
Alabama offers incredible views of its coastline, the rolling hills of its eastern side, and the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains to the north. Explore it all with the additional job opportunities and potentially higher income that come with the Hazmat endorsement.
