The Heart of Dixie, or the Yellowhammer State, is filled with attractions and serves as a hub between the Gulf Coast, the Tennessee Valley, and the Deep South. If you have a commercial driver’s license (CDL) and plan to drive a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) designed to carry 16 or more people (including the driver), you’ll need a Passenger "P" endorsement. One of the requirements for obtaining the P endorsement is passing a Knowledge Test on Sections 2 and 4 of the state’s CDL manual. You must also pass the Air Brakes knowledge test if the bus has air brakes. Finally, you must pass the skills tests for the class of passenger vehicle you plan to operate if you haven’t already done so. That can feel like a lot at first. But don’t worry. Our AlabamaDMV CDL Passenger Endorsement Practice Tests present the tested material using the same multiple-choice structure as the official exam and help familiarize you with the sometimes-tricky wording you will face. In short, our content experts have carefully crafted these exams to help ensure you pass your official exam on the first attempt.

The P endorsement knowledge exam tests whether you understand how to keep passengers safe throughout each step of the trip, including pre-trip and post-trip inspections. You are expected to know how to inspect the service brakes, parking brake, steering mechanism, lights, reflectors, tires, horn, windshield wipers, mirrors, wheels, rims, coupling devices, and emergency equipment. You must also inspect the inside of the bus, where aisles and stairwells must be clear, handholds and railings must be secure, signaling devices must work, seats must be fastened safely, and emergency exit signs, handles, doors, windows, and roof hatches must be ready for use.

Bus drivers must stop between 15 and 50 feet before railroad crossings and look and listen in both directions for an approaching train, sometimes even opening the forward door to see and hear more clearly. You also must avoid changing gears while crossing tracks in a manual transmission bus. Taking the guesswork out of what is needed, these are the kinds of details our practice tests help you remember before you arrive for the official exam.

Our interactive, AI-powered Challenge Bank™ remembers any questions you miss and repeats them until you answer correctly. Once you’ve aced this practice test, try another: https://driving-tests.org/alabama/al-cdl-passenger-vehicles-practice-test/.
