The Golden State! California is the home of the Pacific Coast Highway, the Central Valley, the Sierra Nevada, Silicon Valley, and major cities like Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco. Because of the state’s popularity, beautiful sites, and beaches, it is one of the busiest passenger transport areas in the country. It has stricter passenger-vehicle rules than most other states. In fact, in California, to drive a vehicle designed to carry more than 10 occupants (including you, the driver), you must add the "P" endorsement to your CDL. To obtain this endorsement, you must pass the Passenger Transport Test and a skills test in a representative passenger vehicle. Our California DMV CDL Passenger Endorsement Practice Tests are the perfect tool to help you pass your exam on the first attempt. They use the same multiple-choice structure and wording (which can be quite tricky!) as the official exam. Our content experts have removed any unnecessary fluff and focused on the material you really need for the official exam. Featuring an interactive, AI-powered Challenge Bank™, our practice tests include a searchable digital copy of the official handbook. Ace this practice test and try another: https://driving-tests.org/california/ca-cdl-passenger-vehicles-practice-test/.
The P endorsement exam tests your understanding of passenger safety throughout each step of the trip and includes pre-trip and post-trip inspection protocol. You are expected to know how to inspect the service brakes, parking brake, steering mechanism, lights, reflectors, tires, horn, windshield wipers, mirrors, wheels, rims, coupling devices, and emergency equipment. Also, the aisles and stairwells, handholds and railings, and all signals must be inspected. You’ll need to inspect the seats, emergency exits, signs, handles, doors, windows, and roof hatches as well.
If you plan to transport students, you must also pass the School Bus "S" endorsement knowledge test. Check out our School Bus Endorsement Practice Tests here: https://driving-tests.org/california/ca-cdl-school-bus-practice-test/. If you plan to drive passengers in vehicles equipped with air brakes, you’ll also need to pass the Air Brakes Knowledge Test. We have practice tests for this as well: https://driving-tests.org/california/ca-cdl-air-brake-practice-test/.
California has additional passenger-transportation certificates that may also apply beyond the basic "P" endorsement, depending on the vehicle and service. These can include a Verification of Transit Training document, a General Public Paratransit Vehicle certificate, a School Bus Driver certificate, a School Pupil Activity Bus certificate, a Farm Labor Vehicle certificate, a Youth Bus certificate, or a Vehicle for Developmentally Disabled Persons certificate. The "P" endorsement may be only one of the requirements for certain California passenger jobs. Be sure to check with the DMV or your hiring organization for these extra requirements.
