A major step toward driving combination vehicles in Colorado is passing the CDL Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test, which is required to earn a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). You’ll also need to complete all Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) requirements through an FMCSA-approved provider, hold a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) for at least 14 days, and then schedule your CDL skills test. The skills test (which must be taken in a combination vehicle!) includes vehicle inspection, basic control skills, and on-road driving.
The Colorado Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test consists of 20 multiple-choice questions. These cover an extensive amount of material as discussed in the combination vehicles section of the most recent Colorado CDL Manual (Colorado CDL Handbook 2025). To pass, you must answer at least 16 (80%) correctly. If you fail, you must wait at least one business day before retesting, and an additional fee may apply.
The CDL manual section on combination vehicles can be quite intimidating. To simplify your preparation for this test, we have created a suite of Colorado-specific practice tests that focus directly on the material you actually need to know for the exam. Our Colorado CDL Combination Vehicles Practice Test mirrors the official exam and covers safe driving practices for combination vehicles, air brake systems in tractor-trailers, proper coupling and uncoupling procedures, and vehicle inspections.
Colorado’s economy relies heavily on industries such as agriculture (cattle, wheat, corn, dairy, potatoes, and hay), energy production (oil, gas, and renewable resources), and tourism. Major roadways, like Interstates 25, 70, and 76, connect Denver, Colorado Springs, and Fort Collins. With a Class A CDL, you gain access to the high-demand jobs that require this license and skill set.
Our practice tests provide instant feedback, hints, and detailed explanations to speed learning and improve retention. We want to not only help you add a credential to your CDL but also help you increase your earning potential. Once you’ve aced this practice test, try another one here: https://driving-tests.org/colorado/co-cdl-combination-test/.
Since most combination vehicles use air brakes, you’ll also need to pass the Air Brakes Knowledge Test. We offer practice tests for this as well. You can also add valuable endorsements to your CDL, such as Hazardous Materials (H). We’ve got you covered here as well: https://driving-tests.org/colorado/co-cdl-hazmat-practice-test/!
Take advantage of our expert-designed practice tests to add endorsements, remove restrictions, and learn the material faster and more effectively, putting you on the road to new skills and earnings potential!
