Don’t leave the house unprepared for the General Knowledge test to get your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) in Colorado. Almost nothing is worse than making multiple trips to the DMV, right? Let’s limit that commitment to just one successful trip by making sure you have everything you need when you get there. While you’ll need to be ready for the test itself, there are a number of steps you need to go through before that in order to be sure you have the correct paperwork for application. First of all, you’ll have to obtain a Medical Examiner’s Certificate to prove you are physically qualified to drive a commercial vehicle. You cannot get this from any physician, however there is a long list of licensed medical examiners on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) National Registry. If it is determined that you are physically qualified you can get a certificate that will last you up to two years. Some certificates will last less time if you have a condition that needs monitoring like hypertension. In addition, you’ll need proof of citizenship or lawful permanent residency. For this you can provide a birth certificate, Green Card, or Social Security Card. And, of course, you need a valid current driver’s license. With all those, you’ll be ready to tackle the exam, right? Well, just because you have your papers in order doesn’t mean that you are quite prepared to answer the 50 rather tricky multiple-choice questions in under one hour. If you get just 10 of those questions wrong you fail and sadly have to come back another day. In order to get your mind right, study up on the official California state commercial driver’s manual and this CO CDL General Knowledge Practice Test. You’ll find that this test has questions that look and feel just like the real thing, preparing you for success right away.
