CT CDL Passenger Vehicles Practice Test 3 2026

5 min
Perfect for:
First-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants

The Constitution State sits right between New York, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts and offers a lot of opportunities to commercial drivers license (CDL) holders who are certified to transport passengers. If you are a CDL holder and plan to drive a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) designed to transport 16 or more passengers (including the driver), you’ll need a Passenger "P" endorsement (among other requirements). Connecticut also has a public passenger endorsement system, so you’ll need to pay close attention to the type of vehicle and service you plan to operate and make sure those requirements are met. To obtain the P endorsement, you must pass the Passenger Endorsement Knowledge Test, which is based on Sections 2 and 4 of the state CDL manual. Also, if you plan to drive CMVs with air brakes, you must pass the Air Brakes Knowledge Test (more on that below). If you haven’t already, you must pass the skills tests for the class of passenger vehicle you plan to operate. That is certainly quite a list of requirements. But don’t feel overwhelmed. Our Connecticut DMV CDL Passenger Endorsement Practice Tests use the same multiple-choice structure and style of wording as the official exam, so you’ll be familiar with official exam conditions before you take it. Our interactive, AI-powered practice tests have helped thousands pass their official exam on the first attempt. Once you’ve aced this practice test, try another: https://driving-tests.org/connecticut/ct-cdl-passenger-vehicles-practice-test/.

Passenger safety is the paramount purpose of the P endorsement knowledge exam. You’ll need to understand pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and how to inspect the service brakes, parking brake, steering mechanism, lights, reflectors, tires, horn, windshield wipers, mirrors, wheels, rims, coupling devices, and emergency equipment. You must also inspect the inside of the bus, making certain that aisles and stairwells remain clear, and checking handholds and railings, signaling devices, emergency exit signs, handles, doors, windows, and roof hatches to make sure they are functional. You must also check the security and integrity of each seat,

In addition to the equipment inspection needs, you must also manage the passengers. You’ll need to understand safe loading and unloading, carry-on baggage rules, hazardous materials restrictions, the standee line, and how to deal with disruptive passengers. Bus drivers must stop at railroad crossings, look and listen carefully, and avoid shifting gears while crossing tracks.
