- Perfect for first-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants, and those adding endorsements
- Based on 2025 DE commercial driver's license manual
- Triple-checked for accuracy
- Updated for September 2025
In Delaware, you’ll need a Tanker (N) endorsement on your CDL to operate vehicles designed to carry liquids or gases in bulk tanks. This endorsement is required when the individual capacity of each tank is more than 119 gallons and the total capacity is 1,000 gallons or more. Tanker driving is an especially complex endeavor, requiring consistency and perseverance from aspiring drivers who find themselves in the learning phase. The Delaware CDL Tanker endorsement exam includes a written test that covers important topics such as liquid surge, managing the center of gravity, safe driving practices and emergency protocols. To obtain a tanker endorsement, you must score at least 80% on this knowledge exam.
If you haven’t yet done so for your CDL, you must also pass a skills test in a vehicle of the license class you are applying for. In the skills test, you must demonstrate a pre-trip inspection, basic vehicle maneuvers and the ability to safely operate a commercial vehicle on public roads. We’ll help you with the theory part so you can understand what it takes to drive a tanker in Delaware. Initially, students will familiarize themselves with the official 2025 CDL manual (Delaware CDL Handbook 2025), which explains various aspects of commercial driving in detail.
But how would you know if you’ve successfully memorized this material? To make it easier for you, we offer a series of CDL Tanker Endorsement practice tests specific to the state of Delaware. Use this valuable resource to evaluate your knowledge and identify areas where you might improve. Updated for September 2025, these practice tests closely resemble the official written exam, allowing students to simulate as many training sessions as they need.
Companies involved in logistics, fuel supply, and manufacturing often look for drivers with a tanker endorsement on their CDL. This valuable asset puts you at an advantage in the world of commercial driving, where you can stand out with the ability to drive tankers. That’s why you should train on our practice tests for several weeks before you take the official knowledge exam. Remember, your goal is to become an expert in this field, not just to obtain a passing score.
