Perfect for first-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants, and those adding endorsements. The Sunshine State is filled with job opportunities, big cities, and the road infrastructure to connect them all; everything you’ll need to have a very rewarding career as a professional commercial driver. If you’re planning to drive commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) with air brakes in Florida (which, frankly, are almost essential in this career!), then passing the Florida DMV CDL Air Brakes Knowledge Test is a must.
When you pass this test (and the behind-the-wheel skills test in an air brake-equipped vehicle), the “L” restriction is removed from your commercial driver license. Without passing these two tests, you cannot legally operate CMVs equipped with air brakes. The written knowledge test is filled with questions covering major topics like air-brake safety, inspection procedures, and air pressure systems. A minimum score of 80 percent is required to pass. Our Florida CDL Air Brakes Practice Tests are designed to help you pass the Air Brakes Knowledge Test on your first attempt.
Our practice tests also feature an interactive CDL handbook, AI-powered feedback, and a Challenge Bank that remembers questions that you miss! You’ll be provided with hints and real-time feedback on each response, which will speed the learning process and maximize retention. Once you’ve aced this practice test, be sure to check out another from our series: https://driving-tests.org/florida/fl-cdl-air-brake-practice-test/.
You’ll also need to pass the hands-on Skills Test in a vehicle with air brakes, which involves an on-the-road vehicle inspection, checking for leaks, verifying air-pressure buildup, and demonstrating safe operation of air brake-equipped vehicles for a certified examiner. If you fail either part (the Knowledge Test or the Skills Test), the “L” restriction remains.
The Sunshine State’s major industries, including tourism and transit (Disney, Universal, and charter operators like Florida Tours and Greyhound Lines), rely on air-brake-equipped buses. Other major industries include agriculture and distribution, logistics, and construction and infrastructure. Florida’s fast-growing metro areas depend on CDL drivers with the Air Brake qualification. Other companies like FedEx, Florida Power & Light, and XPO Logistics regularly hire air-brake-qualified drivers. These represent a lot of closed doors until you pass the knowledge and skills test.
Consider adding endorsements to your CDL to further diversify your skills and give you more job options. Check out our Endorsement Practice Tests here: https://driving-tests.org/florida/fl-cdl-hazmat-practice-test/. If you’re really feeling motivated, prepare and test for the Class A CDL, which gives you the legal ability to operate tractor-trailers and other combination vehicles. With that license, the door to opportunities is wide open. We have practice tests for the Combination Knowledge Test as well!
