If you plan to drive air brake-equipped commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) in Indiana, one of the first steps you’ll need to take is passing the CDL Air Brakes Knowledge Test. You’ll also need to pass the CDL Skills Test in an air brake-equipped vehicle. The Indiana Air Brakes Knowledge Test includes 25 multiple-choice questions, 16 of which you must answer correctly; there is an 80% minimum score required. If you don’t pass, you may retake the test the next business day; however, a retest fee may apply. Our free Indiana CDL Air Brakes Practice Tests help you avoid these delays and added fees by mirroring the official exam and giving you instant feedback on each response so you can learn quickly and efficiently.

Additionally, our practice tests address some obstacles commonly found in the Indiana BMV Knowledge Test. These include distractors, tricky wording, and double negatives that often confuse test takers. Practicing with our Indiana tools helps you become familiar with these tactics and allows you to walk into the testing site fully prepared for whatever they toss your way. Our practice tests also include AI-powered feedback, an interactive CDL Manual, and a Challenge Bank that remembers questions you miss and asks you again and again until you’ve aced them all! Speaking of acing tests, once you’ve done that here, try another practice test in our series: https://driving-tests.org/indiana/in-cdl-air-brake-practice-test/.

About the Indiana CDL

Passing the Air Brakes Knowledge Test and Skills Test will remove the “L” restriction from your CDL, signalling that you can legally operate air brake-equipped vehicles. This qualification opens the door to work requiring this qualification in Indiana’s vital major industries, including agriculture, construction, manufacturing, logistics, and regional freight. Major roadways like I-65, I-69, I-70, and I-74 connect cities from Evansville to Fort Wayne and beyond. They provide the necessary infrastructure for companies like FedEx Freight, Old Dominion Freight Line, and TMC Transportation to thrive and hire you in the process!

Most combination vehicles use air brakes, so while you’re at it, you should prepare for the CDL Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test, the passing of which is one of the major requirements for a Class A License. A Class A License opens a wide range of opportunities, including the operation of tractor-trailers and other large combination vehicles. We have practice tests to help you: https://driving-tests.org/indiana/in-cdl-combination-test/. Additionally, consider adding valuable endorsements, like the T (Doubles/Triples), N (Tank Vehicles), H (Hazardous Materials), and X (Combination of Tank and HazMat) endorsements. Each one adds to your menu of career options. And yes, we have practice tests for endorsements: https://driving-tests.org/indiana/in-cdl-hazmat-practice-test/.
