The Hawkeye State depends on passenger drivers to connect Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Davenport, Sioux City, Ames, Iowa City, river towns, college campuses, rural communities, airports, churches, schools, senior programs, charter routes, and more. If you are looking for ways to add more marketability to your CDL, adding the Passenger Endorsement will certainly do that. If you plan to operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) designed to carry 16 or more passengers, you must obtain this endorsement. To earn it, you must pass the Passenger Transport Knowledge Test. In addition, you’ll need to pass the Skills Test in a passenger vehicle that is representative of the ones you wish to drive. If the CMV has air brakes, you must also pass the separate Air Brakes Knowledge Test and a skills test in a vehicle equipped with air brakes. Our Iowa DOT CDL Passenger Endorsement Practice Tests will help ensure you pass the official endorsement exam on your first attempt. We have other practice tests to help you with the additional requirements (more on that below). Our practice tests include an interactive, AI-powered Challenge Bank™ that remembers any questions you miss and repeats them until you answer correctly. Once you’ve aced this endorsement practice test, try another: https://driving-tests.org/iowa/ia-cdl-passenger-vehicles-practice-test/.
Designed with the same structure and wording of questions you’ll face on the official exam, you’ll learn how to transport passengers safely, how to conduct pre-trip inspections and post-shift inspections, about basic controls, and the on-road testing material found in the state CDL Manual. You must know how to inspect the service brakes, parking brake, steering system, lights, reflectors, tires, horn, windshield wipers, mirrors, wheels, rims, coupling devices when present, and required emergency equipment. You also need to inspect the passenger area. Aisles and stairwells must be clear, seats secure, handholds and railings in good condition, signaling devices operational, and emergency exits ready for use. Iowa’s current skills-test inspection materials specifically include passenger entry and lift equipment, emergency exits, passenger seating, passenger-monitoring devices, and emergency kits for passenger and school buses.
Iowa’s manual pays special attention to the pre-trip inspection and brake check. You must name, point to or touch, and explain what you are inspecting. If your vehicle has air brakes, you must correctly demonstrate the air-brake checks during the Skills Test to receive credit for the pre-trip inspection. Prepare for the Air Brakes Knowledge Test with our practice tests: https://driving-tests.org/iowa/ia-cdl-air-brake-practice-test/.
That’s just the tip of the iceberg. But don’t worry. Our practice tests make sure you’re ready and take the guesswork out of what to expect on the official exam.
