- Perfect for first-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants, and those adding endorsements
- Based on 2025 KY commercial driver's license manual
- Triple-checked for accuracy
- Updated for September 2025
Adding the Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) endorsement to your Kentucky Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is one of the smartest moves you can make to expand your job opportunities and increase your earning potential. Employers pay a premium for drivers qualified to transport hazardous cargo, and multiple industries across the state require Hazmat-endorsed drivers!
To earn this endorsement, you must complete all Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) requirements and two further steps. First, pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) fingerprinting and background check. Because results can take several weeks, start the background check early. While waiting, prepare for the KSP knowledge test, which requires a minimum score of 80% to pass (Kentucky CDL Handbook 2025). The test is challenging and covers federal regulations, hazardous material handling, packaging, quantity limits, and approved transport configurations.
If that sounds intimidating, don’t worry. We’ve streamlined the process with our scientifically designed practice tests. And we don’t just have one HazMat practice test for you; we have several. Once you’ve mastered this one, visit another here: Kentucky CDL HazMat Endorsement Practice Test 2025. Unlike many resources, our practice tests provide instant feedback when you miss a question, helping you learn more effectively and avoid wasting time studying unnecessary material.
In Kentucky, industries like coal and coal by-products, agricultural chemicals, fuels, and industrial chemicals all rely on Hazmat-endorsed drivers. Major employers include Dow Chemical (Carrollton), Toyota Motor Manufacturing (Georgetown), and Marathon Petroleum (Catlettsburg), along with agricultural and biotechnology companies. These opportunities are not available to unendorsed drivers, so get ahead of the pack with your HazMat credential!
Enjoy Kentucky’s diverse driving landscapes, from Appalachian mountain roads to the central Bluegrass hills and Ohio River crossings, as you take on these more rewarding HazMat opportunities. Once you have your ELDT training complete and your TSA clearance approved, and you have adequately prepared with our series of HazMat practice tests, simply bring your documents and fees to the KSP, pass the test, and join the elite ranks of the HazMat endorsed!
Be sure to check out our additional Kentucky-specific endorsement practice tests to further set yourself apart from the competition and increase your marketability and job potential. Each one widens your range of opportunities! We also have practice tests for general CDL preparation (Kentucky CDL Permit Practice Test) and Air Brakes restriction removal (Kentucky CDL Air Brakes Test). Whatever your Kentucky CDL testing needs, we have you covered!
