Perfect for:
First-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants

If you are interested in obtaining a Maine commercial driver’s license (CDL), you’ll first need to complete all the requirements for a commercial learner’s permit (CLP). Once you have the permit, you’ll practice for a minimum of 14 days and then become eligible to take a Skills Test. Once you pass it, you can obtain the CDL. That being said, there are several requirements for obtaining a CLP, including passing the Maine DMV CDL General Knowledge Exam. The official exam contains 50 questions, and you’ll need to earn the required 80% minimum passing score. The primary source for the official exam is the state’s CDL manual. If you’ve taken a look at the required material for the official exam, you may be feeling nervous. Perhaps that is what led you here to our practice test. Rest assured that our expert-crafted Maine DMV CDL General Knowledge Practice Tests are the perfect tool to help you pass your official exam on the first attempt.

Featuring an interactive CDL manual, a state-of-the-art Challenge Bank™, and an end-of-session review that highlights areas for continued study, our AI-powered practice tests make sure you are fully prepared. The Challenge Bank of questions remembers any you miss and recycles them into your queue until you answer correctly. Also, all of our questions are hand-picked and designed to follow the same format and similar wording as those on the official exam. All of these continually updated, interactive features are designed so you learn as you go, versus other methods you might find that are designed less effectively for memorization (like static PDFs and outdated study guides). Once you’ve mastered this practice test, try another from our state-specific series: https://driving-tests.org/maine/me-cdl-practice-test/.

The official knowledge exam covers safe vehicle inspection and operation, including backing, shifting, visibility, speed, space management, communication, and hazard awareness. It also addresses challenging driving conditions, emergencies, railroad crossings, cargo loading, weight distribution, securement, and required cargo inspections. All of these topics and more are covered in our preparatory materials.

Many CMVs are equipped with air brakes, and you must pass the Air Brakes Knowledge Test and the behind-the-wheel Skills Test (in an air brake-equipped CMV). Check out our topic-specific suites of practice tests, including different endorsement focuses and restriction-lifting practice tests like this one: https://driving-tests.org/maine/me-cdl-air-brake-practice-test/.
