The process of becoming a commercial driver in Maryland begins with getting a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP), for which you must pass a vision exam, a medical exam, and the 50-question CDL General Knowledge (permit) exam. (There is one exception: You don’t need a medical exam if you will only be engaged in so-called “excepted commerce.”) Additionally, you must pay the necessary fees and provide identification documents when you submit your application.
To turn your dream career into reality, you must understand the various aspects of commercial driving theory. They are described in the official Maryland commercial driver’s license manual (Maryland CDL Handbook 2025), which you should read at least once.
Our Maryland CDL General Knowledge Exam Simulator is designed to make studying more effective. It features a user-friendly interface, so you don’t have to be skilled with computers to integrate this intuitive tool into your study routine. All 50 questions have multiple answer choices, but only one is correct. Please note that you will not receive any feedback if you make a mistake. This simulator accurately simulates the official testing experience, where help is not provided. Instead, it will automatically add the questions you get wrong to your personal Challenge Bank™, which you can visit to improve your knowledge and learn from your mistakes. Our tools are available 24/7 and can be accessed on any compatible device. We keep them up to date, so you’ll always practice with the latest version. To implement the latest updates brought by MVA rules or state law and align with Maryland’s CDL requirements, we have recently updated this simulator for December 2025.
