Passing the Massachusetts RMV CDL Air Brakes Knowledge Test and the on-the-road Skills Test in an air brake-equipped vehicle is what stands in your way of earning your Air Brakes qualification in Massachusetts. Passing both of these tests removes the “L” restriction from your CDL and opens up a wide range of new driving opportunities across the state. Until then, that restriction will severely limit your job potential, so preparing for these tests is a very smart move!
The official Air Brakes Knowledge Test includes 25 multiple-choice questions, and you must answer at least 16 correctly (80%) to pass. According to the Massachusetts CDL Manual, your original testing fee covers three attempts; additional fees apply after that. If you don’t pass on the first try, you must wait at least one business day before retesting. There is quite a bit of material to learn in order to prepare for this exam, with the potential for additional fees and wait time. However, our experts have crafted a series of practice tests to serve as the perfect tool for your preparations.

Our Free Massachusetts CDL Air Brakes Practice Tests are designed to help you succeed on your first attempt. They use proven learning strategies, immediate feedback, and hints to strengthen memory and understanding, helping you avoid repeat testing fees and delays. We also incorporate an interactive CDL Manual, AI-driven responses, and a Challenge Bank of questions that remember what you get wrong and reinforce that material until you’ve mastered it! Once you’ve aced this practice test, try another here: https://driving-tests.org/massachusetts/ma-cdl-air-brake-practice-test/.
Based on the latest Massachusetts CDL Manual, our practice tests mimic the official RMV exam. Whether driving along the Mass Pike (I-90), navigating I-95 around Boston, or running loads up the I-495 beltway, air brake-qualified drivers are crucial to the Massachusetts economy. Key industries like construction, logistics, manufacturing, and seafood distribution with leading employers such as FedEx Freight, New England Motor Freight, and XPO Logistics, frequently hire air brake-qualified drivers.
To further enhance your career opportunities, consider adding endorsements such as Tanker (N), Hazardous Materials (H), and Doubles/Triples (T). We have Endorsement Practice Tests to help speed that preparatory process: https://driving-tests.org/massachusetts/ma-cdl-hazmat-practice-test/. Also, most combination vehicles rely on air brakes. Since you’re knocking out that testing need here, why not take it a step further by using our series of Combination Vehicle Practice Tests to fulfill one of the requirements for a Class A CDL. Check out our practice tests for that: https://driving-tests.org/massachusetts/ma-cdl-combination-test/.
We know what it takes to pass. And we’ve got the proof.
