About this test

5 min to complete
Available in EN and ES

When you go to the RMV in Massachusetts you are going to want to be 100% ready to get your Commercial Driver’s License. That means you need to be both mentally and physically prepared. What do we mean physically? Well, to get your CDL you first need to go and get a Medical Examiner’s Certificate, also known as a DOT card. This proves that you are physically qualified to drive a commercial vehicle. But you can’t get it just anywhere. The certificate must be obtained from a medical examiner listed on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) National Registry. This isn’t the only paperwork you’ll need however. In order to get your CDL you also want to bring proof of permanent residency or citizenship — a birth certificate, green card or social security card will do nicely. In addition, they’ll want to see a current and valid driver’s license. Then there is the mental preparation. In order to receive your CDL you need to pass a General Knowledge exam and while it sounds like it might be common sense, it can be very tricky. The exam is 50 multiple choice questions and you only have an hour to finish them all. If you miss just 10 you’ll fail the exam and have to come back to the RMV another day. Don’t run that risk. First you’ll want to study the Massachusetts state commercial driver’s manual and then take our General Knowledge practice exams. Our practice tests have hints to help you with your studies and keep track of your score until you’re confident enough to face the real thing.

Enhance your preparation with our comprehensive General Knowledge test collection, tailored to cover all key topics of the CDL exam.
