The Great Lakes State, also known as the Wolverine State, is a great place to add the Passenger "P" Endorsement to your CDL. This endorsement adds a whole new list of potential job opportunities that span the stretch of roads between Detroit, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Ann Arbor, Flint, Traverse City, and the Upper Peninsula. Drivers are needed for lakefront communities, airport terminals, charter routes, church trips, school transportation networks, senior transportation, and paratransit service, just to name a few. If you plan to drive a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) designed to transport 16 or more passengers, including the driver, you must obtain the P endorsement. One of the requirements to get it is to pass the Michigan SOS Passenger Endorsement Knowledge Test. Our Michigan SOS CDL Passenger Endorsement Practice Tests include a Challenge Bank™ filled with multiple-choice questions (fitting the structure of the official exam) and featuring the ability to remember missed questions and recycle them until you answer correctly. You’ll also become familiar with the tricky wording sometimes used on the official exam. Our content experts have removed unnecessary filler and designed these tests to help ensure you pass your official exam on the first attempt.
Passing the Knowledge Test is not the only requirement. Depending on what type of vehicle you plan to drive, you may be required to pass the Air Brakes Knowledge Test (and a Skills Test in an air brake-equipped vehicle). Also, you must pass the Skills Test in the class of passenger vehicle you plan to operate.
The bulk of the exam focuses on your understanding of how to keep passengers safe. This includes responsibilities before passengers step into the vehicle (during pre-trip inspections) and after they exit (during post-shift inspections). You are expected to know how to inspect the service brakes, parking brake, steering mechanism, lights, reflectors, tires, horn, windshield wipers, mirrors, wheels, rims, coupling devices, and emergency equipment. You must also inspect the inside of the bus, where aisles and stairwells must be clear, handholds and railings must be secure, signaling devices must work, seats must be safely fastened, and emergency exits must be marked, accessible, and ready for use. You’ll need to know how to load and unload passengers safely, manage carry-on baggage, follow hazardous materials restrictions, recognize the standee line, avoid distracting conversations with passengers, and handle disruptive riders.
