MS CDL Pre-Trip Inspection Practice Test 2025

  • Perfect for first-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants, and those adding endorsements

To earn a CDL, applicants must pass the General Knowledge Exam and the CDL skills test. Passing the General Knowledge Exam is required for a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP), which is valid for 180 days with one allowed renewal. The CLP allows drivers to practice commercial driving under supervision in preparation for the CDL skills tests. The skills test is divided into three sections: the pre-trip inspection, basic vehicle control, and on-road driving. All three must be passed to earn your CDL. Not only will you face pre-trip inspection questions on the initial General Knowledge Exam, but you’ll also face the material again on the hands-on skills test. This federally mandated test (regulations 49 CFR § 392.7 and 49 CFR § 396.13) ensures drivers can identify and evaluate critical vehicle components to prevent breakdowns and accidents. If you fail any of the three parts of the skills test, you are required to retake the failed portion. You are given credit for the parts you passed, which lasts until your CLP expires. Until you pass all three within the CLP’s validity period, you cannot obtain a CDL.

Failing the General Knowledge exam means you must wait one day before retakes and pay an additional fee. Our Mississippi CDL Pre-Trip Inspection Practice Tests are designed to cover all necessary topics of pre-trip inspections. You’ll need to familiarize yourself with the Mississippi’s essential inspection steps, which involve thoroughly checking the vehicle’s engine compartment, cab controls, lights, tires, brakes, suspension, and cargo securement. In addition to the portion of the General Knowledge test covering these topics, you must physically point to, touch, and name each component during your pre-trip inspection test and explain why it is being inspected. Your examiner must determine that you can ensure all parts are defect-free and in good working condition.

Based on the most recent Mississippi CDL manual (Mississippi CDL Handbook 2025), our 20 multiple-choice-question practice test includes an assessment of your knowledge of pre-trip inspections. Detailed explanations are provided after each response to speed learning and help you pass the official test on your first attempt.

Once you can consistently pass our practice tests, you will be prepared for the pre-trip inspection questions on the official General Knowledge Exam. Check out our different practice tests to prepare for other parts of your upcoming exams.
