MS CDL Pre-Trip Inspection Practice Test 2026
Original questions by our team Based on 2026 MS CDL Handbook
To earn a CDL, applicants must pass the General Knowledge Exam and the CDL skills test. Passing the General Knowledge Exam is required for a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP), which is valid for 180 days with one allowed renewal. The CLP allows drivers to practice commercial driving under supervision in preparation for the CDL skills tests. The skills test is divided into three sections: the pre-trip inspection, basic vehicle control, and on-road driving. All three must be passed to earn your CDL. Not only will you face pre-trip inspection questions on the initial General Knowledge Exam, but you’ll also face the material again on the hands-on skills test. This federally mandated test (regulations 49 CFR § 392.7 and 49 CFR § 396.13) ensures drivers can identify and evaluate critical vehicle components to prevent breakdowns and accidents. If you fail any of the three parts of the skills test, you are required to retake the failed portion. You are given credit for the parts you passed, which lasts until your CLP expires. Until you pass all three within the CLP’s validity period, you cannot obtain a CDL.
