Take a breath. You’ve got this. Passing the New Jersey CDL Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test is one of several major steps toward earning your Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). This license allows you to get behind the wheel of tractor-trailers and other large combination vehicles on Garden State highways. Other major steps include completing Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) through an FMCSA-approved provider and passing the CDL General Knowledge Test. You must complete these two steps to obtain a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP), which, once held for a minimum of 14 days, enables you to sign up for the Skills Test (in a combination vehicle).
As you can see, there are quite a few steps involved in obtaining the Class A License, but the effort is well worth it! While driving on New Jersey’s major roadways (including I-95, I-78, and the New Jersey Turnpike) with a Class A CDL, you’ll be qualified for in-demand jobs with top employers such as ABF Freight Line, FedEx Freight, NFI Industries, Old Dominion Freight, and Walmart Distribution Centers. The possibilities are endless, so let’s dive into how to get this done.
Written in-house by our teamBased on NJ CDL Handbook
Questions are created and maintained by the Driving-Tests.org content team following our multi-layer editorial process and updated whenever the New JerseyMVC changes its handbook or website information. Official sources we check:
The official New Jersey Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test includes 20 multiple-choice questions, and you’ll need to answer at least 16 correctly (80%) to pass. If you don’t pass the first time, you must wait a minimum of one business day before trying again. Don’t sweat it! Our practice tests help ensure you pass on the first attempt. Also, the initial testing fee covers three attempts, so you have room to learn and improve before paying another fee.
Our Free New Jersey CDL Combination Practice Tests are designed to keep you from stressing over retakes or fees. They follow the exact format of the real MVC exam, but also provide immediate feedback on each response so you can learn as you go. Based on the latest New Jersey CDL Manual, you’ll master topics like safe driving techniques for combination vehicles, coupling and uncoupling procedures, air brake operation and inspection, preventing skids and jackknives, and inspection protocols. What we use
Driver handbook • Knowledge‑test/permit overview • Fees & ID requirements • Office/appointment info
How we make exam‑like questions
We mirror recurring themes (e.g., right‑of‑way traps, sign look‑alikes) and use similar distractors and wording styles.
What we don’t do
We don’t collect or publish actual test items and we’re not affiliated with MVC.
