- 40correct answers to pass

You just need to get 40 out of 50 questions correct on the General Knowledge test to get your New Jersey Commercial Driver’s License. Sound easy? It can be, if you study properly and know what you need to bring to the MVC to avoid being sent right home. Before they will let you take the test you will have to present a few pieces of paperwork. The first two are likely pretty easy ones. You need a valid Driver’s License as well as proof of permanent residency or citizenship in the US. This can generally be handled by a green card, social security card or birth certificate. The other piece might be a little more difficult and requires some forethought. The MVC asks that you show a Medical Examiner’s certificate (also known as a DOT Card). This certificate demonstrates that you are physically qualified to drive a commercial vehicle. However, you must obtain this from a licensed medical examiner as listed on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) National Registry. The certificate generally lasts two years, unless the examiner feels you have a condition that needs monitoring, then it may be less. Great, your paperwork is in order. Now you’ll have to study for the exam. You’ll need to get ahold of the official New Jersey Commercial Driver’s Manual and then put the ideas into a test format. That’s where we can help -- with practice exams that give you an experience almost identical to the actual exam. Our CDL General Knowledge practice tests also come with hints and tracking features that make it easier to understand what concepts are important for you to study. Then, when you have the confidence, you’ll be able to face the real thing and succeed the first time. Start studying today so you can obtain your CDL sooner!
