- Perfect for first-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants, and those adding endorsements
- Based on 2025 NJ commercial driver's license manual
- Triple-checked for accuracy
- Updated for September 2025
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a school bus driver? In New Jersey, you can become one if you meet several requirements. Firstly, you’ll need a School Bus (S) endorsement on your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). This endorsement is granted after passing a knowledge test and a skills test in a school bus if you haven’t yet done so for your CDL. If you intend to drive a type B, C or D school bus, you’ll also need a Passenger Vehicles (P) endorsement, which allows you to drive vehicles designed to carry 16 or more passengers (including the driver).
Lastly, all aspiring school bus drivers must undergo a criminal background check and complete a physical examination to meet health requirements. In case of an emergency evacuation, you must be able to evacuate all passengers, including those with mobility problems. There’s a lot to consider when you drive a school bus, but these procedures will become natural to you as you practice on the job.
As you begin the learning phase, you’ll begin by studying the official 2025 CDL manual (New Jersey CDL Handbook 2025). This manual contains useful information on commercial driving, and there is a chapter that talks about the school bus endorsement. However, most students find it difficult to prepare for the CDL School Bus knowledge test in New Jersey by using the manual alone, so they resort to various online resources.
Our New Jersey CDL School Bus practice tests closely resemble the official exam, allowing you to familiarize yourself with its content and format. Consisting of 20 questions, each of these tests has been recently updated for September 2025. To pass, you’ll need to score at least 80%, but it is perfectly normal to fail on your first few attempts.
We recommend opening the official CDL manual in another browser tab and, while you train on our practice tests, search the manual for the correct answer. While this move won’t be allowed during the official knowledge exam, it allows you to associate the practice questions with their correct answers by actively looking for them. There is no time limit, so you don’t have to rush.
