In the Land of Enchantment, earning your Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is your ticket to legally driving tractor-trailers and other combination vehicles. Passing the New Mexico CDL Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test is a key step toward earning this license. You’ll also need to complete Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) through an FMCSA-approved provider, pass the CDL General Knowledge Test, hold a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) for a minimum of 14 days, and pass a skills test in a representative combination vehicle. Our Practice Tests are the perfect tool to walk you through this process and help ensure you pass each MVD exam on your first attempt.

The initial testing fee for the New Mexico Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test covers three attempts, so use them wisely. The official test includes 20 multiple-choice questions, and you must answer at least 16 correctly (80%) to pass. If you don’t make it on the first try, don’t stress! State policy allows you to retest after one business day. However, our New Mexico CDL Combination Practice Tests are designed to help you avoid extra fees and wait times by using proven learning strategies that speed learning and boost retention.

About the New Mexico CDL

Based on the latest New Mexico CDL Manual, our practice test mirrors the real MVD exam. The practice tests also provide immediate feedback on each response, enabling you to learn as you go, versus receiving all feedback at the end of the assessment. You’ll study topics like safe driving practices for combination vehicles, correct use of air brakes, coupling and uncoupling procedures, inspection protocols, and prevention of trailer skids and jackknives, avoiding any fluff that is often included in study guides but not tested. These tests are far more interactive than ordinary study guides and help pinpoint weak areas for you to focus on. With I-40, I-25, and U.S. 285 criss-crossing New Mexico, licensed Class A drivers are in high demand, with employers like ABF Freight, FedEx Freight, Walmart Distribution Centers, and Western Refining regularly seeking qualified drivers. To make yourself even more marketable, consider earning endorsements such as Tanker (N), Hazardous Materials (H), and Doubles/Triples (T). Check out a Hazardous Materials practice test here: https://driving-tests.org/new-mexico/nm-cdl-hazmat-practice-test/. Furthermore, most combination vehicles also use air-brake systems, so passing the Air Brakes Test removes any restriction that would severely limit your job options. See one of our Air Brakes Practice Tests here: https://driving-tests.org/new-mexico/nm-cdl-air-brake-practice-test/.
