In 2025, New York City Transit alone recorded nearly 1.9 billion trips across its subway, bus, and paratransit services. That’s just the city! Without question, state-wide, when you obtain a passenger transport endorsement for your CDL, you open an enormous potential for new job opportunities. In New York City, Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Albany, Long Island, the Hudson Valley, the Adirondacks, and Niagara Falls, you can work with airport routes, charter trips, church outings, school activity travel, senior transportation, paratransit, commuter service, and more. The P endorsement is required for a vehicle designed to transport 16 or more adult passengers, including the driver. In New York, it is also required for vehicles defined as buses under the state’s Article 19-A rules, commercial passenger vehicles over 26,000 pounds, and stretch limousines altered to carry nine or more people, including the driver.

One requirement for obtaining the P endorsement is passing the New York DMV Passenger Transport Test. You must also pass the Skills Test in the class and type of passenger vehicle you plan to operate. Our New York DMV CDL Passenger Endorsement Practice Tests are the perfect tools to pass the official exam on your first attempt. Our experts have crafted practice tests matching the multiple-choice structure and word style of the official exam. Once you’ve mastered this practice test, try another: https://driving-tests.org/new-york/ny-cdl-passenger-vehicles-practice-test/.

The P Endorsement Exam covers passenger safety, including vehicle inspections and managing passengers. You’ll need to know how to inspect equipment like brakes, the steering mechanism, lights, reflectors, tires, mirrors, fire extinguishers, and the bus interior. You’ll need to know how to load and unload passengers safely, manage baggage, follow hazardous materials rules, manage the standee line, avoid distracting conversations, and handle disruptive riders. With so much to prepare, our practice tests are your best bet.

If the commercial motor vehicle (CMV) you plan to drive is equipped with air brakes, including air-over-hydraulic brakes, you are required to pass the state DMV Air Brakes Exam as well as the Skills Test in a vehicle equipped with air brakes. We have practice tests for that as well: https://driving-tests.org/new-york/ny-cdl-air-brake-practice-test/. Our tests also provide end-of-session reviews that highlight weak topic areas for your continued study. Our Challenge Bank™ of questions is designed to ensure you have mastered our content and are fully prepared for your official exam.
