The diversity of the Tar Heel State, from its mountains to its sand dunes, offers plenty of great opportunities for passenger-endorsed CDL holders. In Charlotte, Raleigh, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Asheville, Fayetteville, Wilmington, and the gorgeous Outer Banks, you can transport riders in mountain communities and on airport routes, charter trips, church outings, school activity travel, senior transportation, paratransit, public transit, and more. To legally operate commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) designed to transport 16 or more people, including the driver, you’ll need a Passenger "P" endorsement. To obtain this endorsement, one of the requirements is passing the Passenger Transport Knowledge Test. Once you start digging into the CDL Manual and reviewing the test material for this exam, you can easily become overwhelmed. Don’t worry. Our North Carolina DMV CDL Passenger Endorsement Practice Tests help you prepare by covering the tested material in the same multiple-choice format as the official exam (and with similar wording). You’ll also be provided with an end-of-session review to help identify the topics that need more study before test day. Our interactive, AI-powered Challenge Bank™ remembers questions you miss and brings them back until you answer them correctly. Ace this practice test and try another: https://driving-tests.org/north-carolina/nc-cdl-passenger-vehicles-practice-test/.
You will also need to complete the CDL skills test in a passenger vehicle representative of the class you want to operate. The skills test includes a vehicle inspection, basic vehicle control, and on-road driving, and you must pass each part in order to move forward. If the bus you plan to operate has air brakes, including air-over-hydraulic brakes, you must also pass the separate Air Brakes Knowledge Test. Testing without air brakes can result in an "L" restriction on your CDL that prevents you from operating air brake-equipped commercial vehicles. Testing in a vehicle with air over hydraulic brakes can result in a "Z" restriction that prevents you from operating a vehicle with a full air brake system. The Passenger Endorsement Exam focuses on keeping riders safe before boarding, during the trip, and after the route is complete. You are expected to know how to inspect the bus inside and out, including brakes, steering, lights, tires, emergency equipment, aisles, handholds, seats, signaling devices, and emergency exits. You’ll also need to know how to load and unload passengers, manage carry-on baggage, follow hazardous-materials restrictions, recognize the standee line, avoid distracting conversations with passengers, and handle disruptive riders. All of this and more is covered in our preparatory materials. Get started now.
