OH CDL Pre-Trip Inspection Practice Test 2025

  • Perfect for first-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants, and those adding endorsements

Our Ohio CDL Pre-Trip Inspection Practice Tests cover everything you need to know to ace the pre-trip inspection questions on the Ohio CDL General Knowledge Exam on your first attempt. Lessons learned during this preparation will also help you pass the Pre-trip Inspection part of the CDL Skills Test.

To obtain a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) in Ohio, you must pass the CDL General Knowledge Exam. Failing the knowledge exam means waiting at least one day before retesting and paying an additional fee. Once the knowledge exam is passed and your CLP is granted, you must hold the CLP for at least 14 days before taking the CDL Skills Test. According to federal regulations (49 CFR § 392.7 and 49 CFR § 396.13), the pre-trip inspection test is one of three required parts of the CDL skills test. (The other two are the basic control skills test and road test.)

In Ohio’s Pre-trip Inspection (Vehicle Inspection Checklist), you must be able to perform thorough vehicle checks, including physically pointing to, touching, and naming each component during your pre-trip inspection test and explaining why it is being inspected. You must also declare whether it is in good operational condition. For the Ohio CDL General Knowledge Exam and the CDL Pre-Trip Inspection Test, you’ll need to identify and inspect the vehicle’s engine compartment, cab controls, lights, tires, brakes, suspension, and cargo securement. In Ohio, the specific parts of the vehicle a driver must inspect can vary based on the type of commercial vehicle they are testing in. Failing any part of the skills test requires retaking the failed section within the CLP validity period. In Ohio, the validity period for a CLP is 180 days, with one renewal available. If the CLP expires, you must restart all skills testing from the beginning. Ultimately, your examiner must attest that you can determine whether all parts are in good working condition and free of defects.

This practice test is based on the most recent Ohio CDL manual (Ohio CDL Handbook 2025) and contains 20 multiple-choice questions to assess your knowledge of pre-trip inspections. Our practice tests provide detailed explanations after each response, ensuring you pass the official knowledge test on your first attempt.
