RI commercial driver's license

About this test

5 min to complete
Available in EN and ES

In order to get a commercial driver’s license in Rhode Island, you’re going to have to face a General Knowledge exam. But before you can even see the test, you’ll have to make sure your paperwork is in order. The first thing you’ll want to sort out is your Medical Examiner’s Certificate. Your personal doctor might not be qualified for this as you need to visit a licensed medical examiner as listed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) National Registry. The certification generally lasts two years unless you have a condition that the examiner thinks needs closer monitoring, like hypertension. You’ll have to present this certification along with a current valid driver’s license and proof of citizenship or permanent legal residency. For this, a green card, birth certificate or social security card are some possible documents that fulfill the requirement. Then you have to concern yourself with the test itself. It is 50 relatively tricky multiple-choice questions that you have to answer within an hour. If you miss more than 10 questions, you fail the test and will have to come back to the Rhode Island DMV another day. To avoid this you are going to want to study up. First get yourself the official Rhode Island Commercial Driver’s Manual and read through it closely. Take notes if you need to. Then you’ll want to take as many practice tests as it takes until you are confident that you know the content cold. Our CDL General Knowledge practice tests have hints and tracking features that make it easier to recognize where you should focus your studies, and the questions are similar if not identical to the real thing. Once you can pass these with ease (and will all your paperwork in order) you’ll be ready to hit the DMV and come out of there with a CDL in one visit. Start studying today!

Enhance your preparation with our comprehensive General Knowledge test collection, tailored to cover all key topics of the CDL exam.
