- Perfect for first-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants, and those adding endorsements
- Based on 2025 SC commercial driver's license manual
- Triple-checked for accuracy
- Updated for July 2025
Passing the CDL Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test is essential to earning your Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and legally operating combination vehicles (tractor-trailers) in the Palmetto State. You must also complete Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) through an FMCSA-registered provider and pass a South Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) skills test in a combination vehicle.
The South Carolina Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test consists of 20 multiple-choice questions, and you must answer at least 16 correctly (80%) to pass. If you fail, you will face a minimum one-business-day waiting period before retaking the test. According to the South Carolina CDL Manual, your original application fee allows up to three attempts. After that, you’ll also be required to pay a new test fee for additional attempts.
Our Free South Carolina CDL Combination Practice Tests are designed to help you pass on your first attempt and avoid unnecessary fees and waiting periods. By offering expertly designed questions that mirror the official test and real-time feedback, hints, and AI learning tools, our practice tests increase retention and speed the overall process.
The practice test follows the latest South Carolina CDL Manual and covers essential topics such as safe driving procedures for combination vehicles, air brake systems, coupling and uncoupling techniques, trip inspections, and trailer skids and jackknives.
With major trucking corridors like I-26, I-20, I-85, and I-95 running through South Carolina, connecting Charleston, Columbia, Greenville, and major hubs upstate, earning your Class A CDL dramatically increases driving opportunities. Industries like agriculture, port logistics, retail distribution, and manufacturing, including employers like Southeastern Freight Lines, FedEx Freight, Walmart Distribution, and Old Dominion, frequently seek drivers with Class A CDLs.
To further increase your professional competitiveness, consider adding endorsements for Tanker (N) (hauling bulk liquids and gases), Hazardous Materials (H), Doubles/Triples (T) (pulling multiple trailers), and Passenger (P) (including public transit and even school buses). Our suite of practice tests can help you prepare for those as well!
Additionally, most combination vehicles rely on air brake systems, so you’ll need to pass the Air Brakes Knowledge Test to remove the air brake restriction and operate these vehicles legally. We can help you with that, too!
Be sure to explore our full suite of South Carolina-specific practice tests to prepare for your official exam, restriction removals, and additional endorsements. With our help, you’ll pass on your first attempt!
