- Perfect for first-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants, and those adding endorsements
- Based on 2025 TN commercial driver's license manual
- Triple-checked for accuracy
- Updated for August 2025
If you’re aiming to operate double or triple trailer combinations, you’ll need to earn the T Endorsement on a Class A CDL. In Tennessee, you must first pass the CDL General Knowledge Exam and the CDL Combination Test. With a CLP or CDL in hand, you are eligible to take the Tennessee CDL Double/Triple Trailers Knowledge Test, which is based on the most recent Tennessee Commercial Driver License Manual. This official test, administered by the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security (DMV), consists of 20 multiple-choice questions. To pass, you must correctly answer at least 16 questions (80%). If you don’t pass, Tennessee requires at least one business day before retesting, and additional fees may apply after multiple attempts.
Our free Tennessee CDL Double/Triple Trailers Knowledge Practice Tests are scientifically designed to far surpass the study guides you might find elsewhere. Our tests mirror the official exams and provide real-time feedback, helpful hints, and AI-powered tools to enhance retention and speed learning. All our practice questions are derived from the official Tennessee CDL Manual, covering coupling and uncoupling procedures, jackknife prevention, “crack-the-whip” avoidance, proper following distances, and trailer inspection protocols.
Earning your T Endorsement in Tennessee can be a lucrative way to instantly gain access to more (and higher-paying) jobs. Tennessee’s major highways, like I‑40, I‑65, and I‑75, make it a valuable hub for cargo transport. Major organizations like FedEx Freight (headquartered in Memphis), YRC, and Old Dominion regularly hire T-endorsed drivers.
Additionally, since most double and triple trailer combinations rely on air brakes, you will need to pass the Air Brakes Knowledge Test (and a skills test in a CMV with air brakes). Doing so removes the “L” or “Z” restriction from your license, allowing you to legally operate air brake-equipped vehicles. Additional endorsements available in Tennessee that you may want to consider are (N) tank vehicles, (H) hazardous materials, (X) tank/hazmat combo, (P) passenger vehicles, and (S) school buses. Each endorsement requires a knowledge test, and we offer preparation materials for those as well!
This Practice Test is just one in our Tennessee-specific Double/Triple Trailers Knowledge Test series. Be sure to explore our full suite of practice materials, including combination vehicles, air brakes restriction removal, and other valuable endorsements that expand your driving opportunities.
