Free Utah CDL Air Brakes Test 2025

  • Perfect for first-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants, and those adding endorsements

Do you want to operate commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) with air brakes? Our Utah DMV CDL Air Brakes Practice Tests are designed to help you pass the DMV Air Brakes knowledge exam on your first attempt. Failing the Air Brakes knowledge test in Utah results in a one-day waiting period and a retest fee. Until you pass, your CDL will include the restriction “L,” preventing you from operating CMVs with air brakes. Utah is notable for its diverse terrain (and harsh winters), from the steep grades, winding roads, and high altitudes of the Rocky Mountains and Wasatch Range to the deserts and flat plains in western Utah. Here, reliable air brake systems are a necessity for heavy CMVs.

Utah’s major routes include I-15 (running north-south, connecting to Idaho, Nevada, and Arizona), I-70 (running through central Utah), I-80 (running east-west, connecting to California and the East Coast), and US-40 (linking rural areas to national highways). Most semi-trucks and tractor-trailers rely on air brakes. Therefore, with restriction “L,” your job opportunities will be significantly limited.

Industries across the Beehive State rely on drivers with the air brake qualification. These include manufacturing, energy, agriculture, and tourism. Major companies requiring the qualification include Cummins (Salt Lake City) and Northrop Grumman (Ogden) in the manufacturing sector and Chevron and Rocky Mountain Power in the energy industry. In the agriculture sector, Suncrest Farms and Utah Produce Co. are major players requiring air brake-qualified drivers. XPO Logistics, FedEx Freight, and UPS require the same in the logistics and freight industry. In the tourism and charter bus industry, Greyhound Lines and Utah Transit Authority require air brake-qualified drivers. Most Utah full-size school buses also have air brakes, employing hundreds of qualified drivers. Having an “L” restriction on your CDL prevents you from performing these jobs.

Our CDL Air Brakes Practice Tests help you pass your official DMV Air Brakes Knowledge Test and are useful as you practice for your skills test. The official written Air Brakes knowledge test consists of multiple-choice questions based on the state’s CDL manual (Utah CDL Handbook 2025) and requires a minimum passing score of 80%.

Our Practice Tests are designed to mimic the official knowledge test and offer real-time feedback on all responses. This enhances retention, reinforces key concepts, and ensures you pass the test on your first attempt.
