From the Port of Seattle to Spokane’s distribution infrastructure, Washington’s highways (I-5, I-90, and US-97) connect major industries in logistics, manufacturing, and agriculture. A Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) allows you to legally operate tractor-trailers or other combination vehicles and unlocks high-paying jobs moving freight across the state and beyond. Part of the requirements for a Class A License is passing the Washington CDL Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test. This test covers quite a bit of material, and our experts have crafted a series of practice tests to help ensure you pass the exam on your first attempt.
In addition to the Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test, Washington’s DOL requires you to complete Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) through an FMCSA-approved provider before you can test. You’ll also need to pass the CDL General Knowledge Exam (we have practice tests for that, too), secure your Commercial Learner Permit (CLP), hold it for at least 14 days, and complete both the Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test and the three-part Skills Test (vehicle inspection, basic control, and on-road driving) in a combination vehicle.
The official Washington CDL Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test contains 20 multiple-choice questions, and you must answer at least 16 correctly (80%) to pass. The test covers safe driving practices for combination vehicles, coupling and uncoupling procedures, air-brake system checks and inspections, and preventing rollovers, skids, and jackknives. If you do not pass, Washington law requires at least a one-business-day waiting period, and a retest fee may apply. Our practice tests help ensure that doesn’t happen.
Our Free Washington CDL Combination Practice Tests mirror the official DOL exam. Each question includes instant feedback and hints if needed to help you learn faster and retain information. Our experts have also carefully removed all the fluff often included in other study guides that is not tested, saving you time and mental bandwidth! Once you’ve aced this practice exam, check out another one here: https://driving-tests.org/washington/wa-cdl-combination-test/.
You should also pass the DOL Air Brakes Test to remove the “L” restriction from your CDL. Not doing that will severely limit your Class A license. Try one of our Air Brakes Practice Tests here: https://driving-tests.org/washington/wa-cdl-air-brake-practice-test/. Add valuable endorsements to your CDL as well, including the Tanker (N), Hazardous Materials (H), and Doubles/Triples (T) endorsements.
