In West Virginia, you are just a few requirements away from steady, good-paying jobs across industries like coal transport, agriculture, and logistics. Earning your Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) in West Virginia gives you the opportunity to operate tractor-trailers and other large combination vehicles and tap into an infrastructure designed for lucrative transport opportunities. You’ll need to pass the DMV Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test (among other requirements) to obtain this license in the Mountain State. That’s where our expert-crafted series of Practice Tests comes in! More on that in a moment.
In addition to passing the Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test, you’ll also need to complete Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) through an FMCSA-approved provider. You’ll also need to pass the CDL General Knowledge Exam, obtain a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP), hold it for at least 14 days, and then pass the behind-the-wheel Skills Test in a combination vehicle.
If you do not pass the West Virginia Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test, you must wait a minimum of seven days before retesting! The test includes 20 multiple-choice questions, and you must correctly answer 16 or more (80%) to pass. Please note that your original testing fee only covers three attempts, after which an additional fee must be paid. Avoid the long waiting periods and extra fees by using our Free West Virginia CDL Combination Practice Tests.
Based on the official WV CDL HandbookHandbook‑based (2025) + exam‑taker feedback
Major topics on the official test include safe driving practices for combination vehicles, preventing rollovers, skids, and jackknives, air brake use in tractor-trailers, coupling and uncoupling procedures, and inspection requirements. Our practice tests are based directly on the official West Virginia CDL Manual. You’ll receive instant feedback, hints as you go, and a scientifically backed format proven to help you retain more information and learn material quickly. Once you have a good handle on this practice test, try another from our series here: https://driving-tests.org/west-virginia/wv-cdl-combination-test/.
For drivers planning to operate vehicles with air brakes (which are most of the combination vehicles in service!), take the West Virginia CDL Air Brakes Practice Test to remove the “L” restriction. We have Air Brakes Practice Tests to help with that: https://driving-tests.org/west-virginia/wv-cdl-air-brake-practice-test/. You can also explore our HazMat, Tanker, and Double/Triple Trailer endorsement practice tests to increase your income potential and CDL versatility.
