- Perfect for first-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants, and those adding endorsements
- Based on 2025 WI commercial driver's license manual
- Triple-checked for accuracy
- Updated for July 2025
One critical step to legally operating combination vehicles in Wisconsin is passing the Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test, a requirement for obtaining a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). This credential allows you to drive combination vehicles with a Gross Combination Weight Rating (GCWR) over 26,001 pounds, where the towed unit exceeds 10,000 pounds GVWR. It also vastly increases your job prospects!
There’s a lot to study before test day, and our Free Wisconsin CDL Combination Practice Test is designed to help you pass on your first try. Designed to mimic the official Wisconsin CDL Manual, our test offers multiple-choice questions like those on the real exam. To pass the official exam, you must answer at least 16 out of 20 correctly (an 80% passing score). Built-in hints, real-time feedback, and a scientifically designed practice test format make studying more effective by speeding the learning process and dramatically improving overall retention.
Topics covered include safe driving practices for combination vehicles, preventing trailer skids and jackknives, coupling and uncoupling procedures, air brake systems in combination vehicles, and inspection procedures for combination units. We have covered every topic to ensure you pass the official exam on your first attempt.
Additionally, most combination vehicles use air brakes, so you’ll also want to remove the “L” or “Z” restriction from your license by passing the Air Brakes Knowledge Test (and a skills test in a vehicle equipped with air brakes). Our Air Brakes Practice Test can help you do just that!
Once you’ve got your Class A CDL, we recommend you expand your qualifications by adding endorsements such as T (Doubles/Triples), N (Tank Vehicles), H (Hazardous Materials), X (Combination of Tank and HazMat), and P/S (Passenger or School Bus). These endorsements increase your eligibility for additional jobs with Wisconsin companies like UPS, FedEx, and Old Dominion, and in industries like manufacturing, dairy and agriculture, logistics, and distribution. Wisconsin’s major trucking corridors include I-90, I-94, I-41, and U.S. 151, connecting you to hubs such as Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay, and La Crosse. Your Class A CDL, passing the air brakes test, and additional earned certifications open up a wide range of job opportunities across the Badger State.
