How To Proceed
Make Sure That You Meet the State’s Requirements
Each state has a set of very specific requirements that must be met to drive. If you have a license from another state you can often turn this in, pay a fee and receive your new PA license without having to take the Pennsylvania permit test. If you are getting a first time license, the process will be a little more complicated.
Get a Drivers Handbook from the Pennsylvania DMV
You will definitely need to study before you can even think about taking a practice permit test in PA. Luckily, there is a great guide to help you with the process. Head on over to the DMV and pick up a drivers handbook. As you read it keep your PenDOT practice permit test in mind. This guide will really be priceless as you prepare for your Pennsylvania learners permit practice test.
Once you have your manual, start studying. As you study, keep your PA practice test in mind. Focus on safety, traffic rules and how to operate your vehicle. This guide will have all the information you need to pass your test.
Take a Pennsylvania Practice Permit Test
Taking a PA permit practice test is a great way to make sure that you are ready for your test. Once you are comfortable with your studying, find a couple of practice tests online and try a few. How did you do? If you do well, it might be time to take your permit test.
Get A Physical
To drive in Pennsylvania you have to have a physical first. Visit any doctor, physicians assistant or nurse practitioner and have them fill out the special DMV form. It is a good idea to take a form with you when you go in. Ask specifically for the DL180 form.
Fill Out DMV Paperwork
You will need to fill out paperwork before you can take your permit test. When you go to the drivers license center take along your DL180 form, proof of identity, 2 proofs of residency (not required if 16 or 17), a social security card and a check or money order for your fee. Make the check out to the PennDOT for the entire fee amount which is $33. Cash and credit cards are not accepted.
Take Your Pennsylvania Permit Test
Next you will take your permit test. This test will cover general knowledge questions based on the Pennsylvania drivers handbook. You will also take a vision test.
If you are under 18 you will need to get in at least 65 hours of practice and wait at least 6 months before you can get your license. In any case, getting as much practice as possible in is very important. Make sure that you have another licensed driver in the front seat with you at all times.
Schedule Your PA DMV Test
When you are ready call the DMV or schedule your road test online. When you go to take your test bring along a learners permit, parental certification (under 18), proof of insurance and registration, a vehicle and an accompanying driver with a valid license.
Pass Your Test and Get Your License
If you pass your PA driving test, you will receive your PA drivers license. Have fun with your new license and congratulations.
