- Perfect for first-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants, and those adding endorsements
Earning your Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) greatly increases your marketability in Alaska. Combination-vehicle drivers in Alaska satisfy critical supply needs in remote areas throughout the state, transporting oil and gas equipment, moving seafood and timber products, and supporting the state’s construction and tourism needs. The Alaska Highway, the Dalton Highway (supporting the oil industry on the North Slope), and other regional roadways are the lifeline of Alaska. Major employers like Carlisle Transportation, Lynden Transport, Vitus Energy, Pepsi, Sysco, and Titan, LLC require Class A CDL drivers. Because of this demand, you are taking a giant step up in your career by obtaining this license.
Passing the CDL Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test is required to earn a Class A CDL and legally drive combination vehicles in Alaska. You must also pass a skills test in a combination vehicle and complete Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) through an FMCSA-approved provider. The official knowledge test covers safe driving practices for combination vehicles, braking systems (especially air brakes), proper coupling and uncoupling procedures, inspection procedures, and the key components of combination vehicles. With so much material to be learned and so high a demand for Class A drivers, our experts have created Combination Vehicle Practice Tests to help you.
The Alaska Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test is made up of 20 multiple-choice questions, and you must score at least 80% to pass. If you fail the official knowledge test, you must wait until the next business day to retake it. Our free Alaska CDL Combination Practice Tests are designed to help you pass on your first attempt.
Based on the most recent Alaska CDL Manual (Alaska CDL Handbook 2025), our practice tests provide immediate feedback, hints, and detailed explanations while closely mimicking the format of the official exam. Furthermore, we focus on the tested materials, filtering out any unnecessary material so you can focus on what counts! Also, we have more than one combination vehicle practice test. Try another here: https://driving-tests.org/alaska/ak-cdl-combination-test/
In addition to the Class A license, you should check out endorsements, such as our series of practice tests on Hazardous Materials here: https://driving-tests.org/alaska/ak-cdl-hazmat-practice-test/. Adding more endorsements to your CDL puts you that much further ahead of the competition and widens the scope of your job opportunities. Be sure to also prepare for the Air Brakes Test if you have not already, since most Class A vehicles in Alaska rely on air brake systems.
