AK CDL Pre-Trip Inspection Practice Test 2025
Earning your Alaska CDL requires successfully passing the Alaska CDL General Knowledge Exam as well as the CDL Pre-Trip Inspection Test, a critical portion of the CDL skills exam. The Alaska CDL General Knowledge Exam includes questions specific to pre-trip inspection materials. Our Alaska CDL Pre-Trip Inspection Practice Tests are specifically designed to cover all these necessary topics. Without passing this knowledge exam, you will not even be able to obtain a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP). Additionally, if you fail the knowledge exam, you’ll need to wait at least one day for a retest, and there may be an additional fee. Our practice tests provide the tools you need to pass the knowledge exam on your first attempt. As a bonus, this preparation will also help you with your hands-on Pre-Trip Inspection test, where you will need to accurately assess your vehicle’s condition, which can help minimize risks such as mechanical failures and accidents on the road. According to federal regulations 49 CFR § 392.7 and 49 CFR § 396.13, this inspection is required before hitting the road and is one of three skills tests that must be passed to receive a full CDL—alongside the basic control skills test and road test.
For both the Alaska CDL General Knowledge Exam and the CDL Pre-Trip Inspection Test, you’ll need to familiarize yourself with the Alaska Seven-Step Inspection Method. This involves thoroughly checking the vehicle’s engine compartment, cab controls, lights, tires, brakes, suspension, and cargo securement. In addition to the portion of the General Knowledge test covering these elements, you must be able to physically point to, touch, and name each component during your pre-trip inspection test and explain why it is being inspected during the pre-trip testing section. Your examiner will need to see that you can determine whether all parts are in good working condition and free of defects.
This practice test is based on the most recent Alaska CDL manual (Alaska CDL Handbook 2025) and contains 20 multiple-choice questions to assess your knowledge of pre-trip inspections. It includes detailed explanations after each response you provide, which speeds learning and helps you pass the official knowledge test on your first attempt.
