To obtain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), you must first meet the basic eligibility requirements. You must be at least 18 to drive commercial vehicles within Arkansas, or 21 to drive across state lines, transport hazardous materials, or carry passengers. You’ll also need a valid Arkansas driver’s license, proof of U.S. citizenship, and a clean driving record. To ensure your physical fitness for this profession, a certified medical examiner will perform a medical exam and a vision screening. This requirement does not apply to aspiring commercial drivers who plan to be engaged in excepted commerce.
To get a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP), you must score 80% or higher on the official general knowledge test. Since air brakes are standard on most trucks, you should also pass the official air brakes knowledge exam. After obtaining a CLP, you must wait a minimum of 14 days. Federal law requires you to complete Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) from a registered provider before you can take the CDL skills tests. If you find the licensing process overwhelming, we are here to help you complete it with ease.
