DC CDL General Knowledge Practice Test 4 2026

6 min
Perfect for:
First-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants

Welcome to our AI-powered District of Columbia DMV CDL General Knowledge Practice Tests. Our content experts have taken the guesswork out of what to expect from the official District of Columbia DMV CDL General Knowledge Exam. If you’ve taken a look at the state CDL Manual, you’ve no doubt found that a substantial amount of material must be learned to pass the required exam with a minimum score of 80%. That much material can be overwhelming. Fortunately, our interactive practice tests go well beyond the static pdfs and potentially outdated study guides you may find elsewhere. Instead, we take a learn-as-you-go approach that features AI-driven responses for each question. Our Challenge Bank™ redistributes any missed questions back into your queue so that you must face them again until answered correctly. This helps ensure the material is retained and you are fully prepared. We even provide an end-of-session review that highlights any topics that need further study. We have you covered and help ensure you avoid potential delays and added retest fees. Ace this practice test and try another from our series: https://driving-tests.org/district-of-columbia/dc-cdl-practice-test/.

Imagine yourself transporting freight along I-295 and the Capital Beltway or delivering goods serving federal facilities, construction sites, transit operations, and businesses throughout the nation’s capital. In District of Columbia, the General Knowledge Test has a 90-minute time limit and must be taken in person at the Deanwood Road Test/CDL Services Office. Rest assured that you’ll be fully prepared for that moment with our practice tests.

You’ll cover topics like vehicle inspections, basic vehicle control, proper shifting, communicating with other road users, maintaining visibility, managing space, controlling speed, and recognizing hazards. Additionally, you’ll also need to understand how to deal with distracted and aggressive driving, fatigue, night driving, fog, winter weather, railroad crossings, mountain driving, skids, fires, crashes, and emergency procedures. The list goes on and on, but our content experts make sure your bases are covered.

Once you pass and obtain your commercial learner’s permit (CLP), you must hold it for at least 30 days before scheduling the behind-the-wheel Skills Test. Once you meet these requirements (and more) and obtain your CDL, you may want to add specialized endorsements (and remove automatic restrictions) to broaden your marketability. We have topic-specific practice tests to guide you each step of the way. Check out our Air Brakes Practice Tests (to remove the No Air Brakes restriction from your CDL): https://driving-tests.org/district-columbia/dc-cdl-air-brake-practice-test/. Or take our Passenger Endorsement Practice Tests (if these apply to your career plans): https://driving-tests.org/district-columbia/dc-cdl-passenger-vehicles-practice-test/.
