If you want to legally drive combination vehicles, like tractor-trailers, through the Sunshine State, you must carry a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Earning this license requires you to pass the Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test, which applies to any combination vehicle with a gross combination weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 pounds or more, provided the towed unit exceeds 10,000 pounds. That’s not the only requirement. You’ll also need to pass a CDL General Knowledge Test and a CDL skills test (covering vehicle inspection, basic control, and on-road driving). Before you take the skills test, Florida requires you to hold a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) for at least 14 days and complete Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) from a provider listed on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry. These steps can be a bit overwhelming, but do not fear, our Florida-specific practice tests and preparatory materials will guide you throughout the process.
On the official Florida Combination Vehicles exam, you will face 20 multiple-choice questions. A score of at least 80% (16 correct answers) is required to pass. If you fail, you’ll need to wait at least one day before retesting and may need to pay a retest fee. This is completely avoidable by using our practice tests.
Our Free Florida CDL Combination Practice Test is based on the official Florida CDL Manual and follows the same format as the real exam. Our practice tests provide instant feedback and study hints that help you learn faster and retain information more effectively. Topics include combination vehicle safety practices, trailer skid and jackknife prevention, coupling and uncoupling procedures, air brake systems in combination vehicles, and vehicle inspection requirements. We have all the bases covered in our practice test design.
Because most combination vehicles use air brakes, you’ll also need to pass the Air Brakes Knowledge Test and a skills test in a vehicle with air brakes to remove any air brake restriction from your CDL. Be sure to check out our Air Brakes Practice Tests here: https://driving-tests.org/florida/fl-cdl-air-brake-practice-test/.
Since you’re on such a roll with our practice tests, we encourage you to further expand your qualifications and job prospects by adding endorsements like the Hazardous Materials (H). You guessed it! We have practice tests for these endorsements as well: https://driving-tests.org/florida/fl-cdl-hazmat-practice-test/.
With our Florida CDL practice tests, you’ll have the tools to pass the knowledge exams and prepare for a lucrative career in trucking.
