Georgia places student safety at the forefront before a new driver gets behind the wheel of a school bus. The process for adding a School Bus “S” Endorsement to an existing CDL begins with the passing of the Georgia School Bus Endorsement Knowledge Test. (Passing the Skills Test in a school bus comes later.) Georgia complies with federal regulations but also adds its own. Prospective drivers must complete Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT), meet state background check procedures, and register through the DDS’s AIM system. Many districts also add their own regulations, which may include supervised ride-along sessions or additional internal training. Because transporting students qualifies as passenger transport, all applicants must also pass the Passenger “P” Endorsement Exam. With so much material to master, our Georgia CDL School Bus “S” Endorsement Knowledge Practice Tests are the perfect tool to help you pass on your first attempt.
One of the key topics on the official exam is passenger loading and unloading. The “danger zone” surrounding a bus is a critical concern. Drivers are expected to demonstrate a clear understanding of mirror usage, constant scanning, blind-spot management, and control over student approaches and exits. Georgia test materials also cover preventing accidents in the stairwell, such as clothing or backpacks becoming caught on handles. Georgia law mandates that a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) automatically carries a No Passengers in CMV Bus restriction. Practice must always take place in an empty bus except for your instructor or examiner until you earn your full CDL with the School Bus and Passenger endorsements. Your knowledge exam also covers railroad crossing procedures, emergency evacuations, and the post-trip inspection that ensures no student is left on board.
