HI CDL Combination Vehicles Practice Test 3 2025

  • Perfect for first-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants, and those adding endorsements

Interested in driving combination vehicles in Hawaii? You’ve come to the best place to prepare! To legally operate combination vehicles, such as tractor-trailers, you must pass the Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test, one of several key requirements for obtaining a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). This license is required to operate any combination of vehicles with a gross combination weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 pounds or more, with a towed vehicle’s gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) that exceeds 10,000 pounds (Hawaii CDL Handbook 2025).

In addition to the knowledge test, Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) must be completed with a provider listed on the Training Provider Registry (TPR) before scheduling your CDL skills test. You must also pass the Hawaii CDL General Knowledge Test to obtain your Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP). This permit must be held for a minimum of 14 days before taking the behind-the-wheel skills test in a combination vehicle to receive your Class A CDL.

The Hawaii Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test requires that you answer at least 16 questions correctly (obtaining a minimum passing score of 80%). If you fail, you must wait at least one business day and pay a retesting fee before trying again. Our experts have created a series of combination vehicle practice tests that will help you pass on your first attempt!

Our Free Hawaii CDL Combination Practice Test mimics the real test format and includes immediate feedback to improve recall. We cut the fluff out of our study materials, focusing on only the material that may be tested. Safe driving and braking practices for combination vehicles, prevention of trailer skids and jackknives, proper coupling and uncoupling procedures, air brake systems for combination vehicles, and inspection steps make up the majority of the study topics. Earning your Class A CDL in Hawaii opens doors to industries like freight logistics, agriculture, construction, and shipping. Major highways include Interstate H-1, H-2, and H-3 on Oahu, as well as regional routes on the Big Island and Maui. This intricate system of transit offers wonderful opportunities to Class A CDL holders.

You’ll also need to pass the Air Brakes Knowledge Test, as most combination vehicles are equipped with them! No passed Air Brakes Test, no driving CMVs. Check out our series of Air Brakes Practice Tests to prepare: https://driving-tests.org/hawaii/hi-cdl-air-brake-practice-test/. Also, consider adding endorsements to your CDL for additional career opportunities.
