Don’t go unprepared to the DMV in Hawaii to take the General Knowledge test for your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or Learner’s Permit (CLP). What does it take to be ready? Well you really need just four things. First you have to have all your information ready. The paperwork that you need includes a medical examiner’s certificate that you will have to procure from a licensed medical examiner, as listed on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) National Registry. That’s one. Then you also need proof of permanent residence or U.S. citizenship, like your social security card, green card, or birth certificate. That’s two. In addition, you need to already have a valid driver’s license. That’s three. Finally, you need to actually be ready to pass the test. This part is a little more difficult than just getting a piece of paper signed. The test is 50 questions long and you only have 60 minutes to get them right. Miss out on more than 10 of those questions and you’ll fail the test and have to come back another day. So what can you do to succeed? One piece of crucial advice is to pick up the official Hawaiian commercial driver’s manual. Then you have to study. The best way to study is to take our CDL General Knowledge practice tests. The questions here give you realistic testing conditions and have wordings and concepts right from the test. Make sure you can ace the test at home before braving the DMV. Start studying today!
