- Perfect for first-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants, and those adding endorsements
- Based on 2025 HI commercial driver's license manual
- Triple-checked for accuracy
- Updated for October 2025
Whether driving along the iconic coastal highways of Oahu, passing the lush rainforests and towering cliffs of Maui, or cruising down the volcanic roads on the Big Island, drivers must carefully navigate the narrow, winding roads that are so common in most of this state. With that being said, driving a tanker truck in the Aloha State might be more difficult than you thought, requiring extra caution to maintain stability. We know you’ve got what it takes to become a successful commercial driver, but you must prove yourself to the Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT).
Before you can get behind the wheel of an actual tanker, you must obtain a Tank Vehicles (N) Endorsement on your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). This endorsement allows you to drive vehicles transporting liquids or gases in tanks whose individual capacity is larger than 119 gallons and whose aggregate capacity is at least 1,000 gallons. To transport hazardous liquids and gases such as gasoline and pesticides, you must also obtain a HazMat (H) Endorsement.
It might be difficult to estimate your probability of passing the Tank Vehicles knowledge test on your own. Even when you’re doing a great job memorizing the important aspects of becoming a successful tanker driver, there’s no way to predict the precise questions you’ll get on the official exam. To help you get an idea about your current position in your learning journey, we have created a series of CDL Tank Vehicles Endorsement practice tests specific to the state of Hawaii.
Consisting of 20 questions based on the official 2025 CDL manual (Hawaii CDL Handbook 2025), each practice test closely resembles the official Tank Vehicles knowledge exam. With unlimited attempts, students can train on these practice tests every day. Your chances of passing this exam will gradually increase if you remain consistent in your training. However, it is crucial to remember that your final goal is to become a skilled tanker driver, not to obtain a passing score.
Passing the Tank Vehicles knowledge exam represents one step in your commercial driving career. It is followed by employment, where countless hours of driving will help you further refine your skills. As you cruise down the Hana Highway in a full tanker, you’ll be grateful for the time and effort spent training and learning prior to obtaining the ”N” endorsement.
