Idaho entrusts its school bus drivers with a responsibility as vast as the Sawtooth Range. Earning that trust begins with drivers successfully passing the Idaho DMV School Bus “S” Endorsement Knowledge Test. Every school bus driver must hold both a Passenger “P” endorsement and a School Bus “S” endorsement. Idaho also requires successful completion of a criminal background check along with meeting its Department of Education medical and training standards. Until a driver is fully licensed, Idaho places a restriction on the Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) that prevents transporting passengers. This means a new driver may operate only an empty school bus except when practicing with a certified instructor.
The official test focuses on passenger safety. Because most student injuries occur in the areas immediately surrounding the bus (known as the “danger zones”), the exam emphasizes loading and unloading procedures. Drivers must demonstrate a clear understanding of how to observe children as they move to and from the bus, how to use mirrors to eliminate blind spots, how to position the bus at each stop to maximize student visibility, and how to manage the danger of clothing or backpacks becoming caught on handrails. School bus drivers must also be prepared to make controlled stops, secure the bus at every point of student contact, approach railroad crossings correctly, and respond to emergencies. Finally, drivers must know how to perform post-trip inspections to ensure no student has been left behind.
Our Idaho School Bus “S” Endorsement Practice Tests mirror the structure and tone of Idaho’s official exam. Our experts have cut through unnecessary detail and focused on what is actually evaluated. Each practice test features an interactive CDL Manual and immediate AI-powered feedback, so learners absorb the reasoning behind each answer rather than just memorizing static information. Drivers who miss a question will see it again through our trademarked Challenge Bank until it is fully mastered, and the results page at the end of each practice test highlights subjects needing further review. Once you have a handle on this practice test, try another here: https://driving-tests.org/idaho/id-cdl-school-bus-practice-test/.
You should also prepare for the required Passenger Endorsement. We have state-aligned practice tests for this as well: https://driving-tests.org/Idaho/id-cdl-passenger-vehicles-practice-test/. Since most full-size buses use air brakes, you might also prepare for the Idaho Air Brakes Test by using our suite of practice tests: https://driving-tests.org/idaho/id-cdl-air-brake-practice-test/.
