About this test

5 min to complete
Available in EN and ES

When double clutching, what should you do if you have difficulty getting into the next gear? Do you know? If you’re not entirely sure of the official answer, perhaps it’s a good idea to study up with the official Illinois commercial driver’s manual and study our CDL General Knowledge practice tests. The tests have language directly from the real thing and with hints and progress reports to help you along, it is the best way to be prepared to succeed on the general knowledge test the first time you go to the DMV. The 50 question exam gives you only 60 minutes to achieve a score of 40 or more correct. Miss more than 10 questions and you fail and will have to take another day off to hit the DMV. No one wants that. But before you face the test, you also have to have all your ducks in a row. There are three pieces of paperwork that is expected of you at the Illinois DMV. One that you may not have lying around in a safe is a medical examiner’s certificate. These are only available from a licensed medical examiner, as listed on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) National Registry. Once you receive one they are generally good for two years, unless you have a condition that needs monitoring. Then, you’re also required to show proof of permanent residency or citizenship. For this a social security card or birth certificate is the kind of thing that is usually necessary. Lastly you just need a valid driver’s license. So study up and get organized, because it’s time you got that CDL and started making sweet cash by driving the roads of Illinois. Start studying today!

Enhance your preparation with our comprehensive General Knowledge test collection, tailored to cover all key topics of the CDL exam.
