Free KY CDL Double/Triple Trailers Practice Test 2025

    • Perfect for first-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants, and those adding endorsements
    • Based on 2025 KY commercial driver's license manual
    • Updated for March 2025

To be legally allowed to pull double or triple trailers, you must obtain a Class A CDL if you don’t already hold one. To do this, you must pass the General Knowledge test and the Combination knowledge test. Because nearly all large Class A combination vehicles are equipped with air brakes, you should also pass the Air Brakes knowledge test. Finally, you must pass a skills test in such a vehicle.

To drive combination vehicles with two or even three trailers or semi-trailers, you must also obtain a Double/Triple (T) endorsement on your Class A CDL. (However, triple trailers are prohibited in Kentucky.) To get this endorsement, you must pass the Double/Triple knowledge test. This test covers such topics as safe handling, air brakes on doubles and triples, coupling and uncoupling, emergency situations, and state and federal regulations on doubles and triples. (However, no special skills test is required for this endorsement.)

All these knowledge tests are based on the official Kentucky CDL manual (Kentucky CDL Handbook 2025). The Double/Triple knowledge test is based on Chapter 7: Doubles and Triples.

We offer a set of tools to complement the official manual with intensive training. This is one of our tools: the first of five Kentucky Doubles and Triples Endorsement Practice Tests. This practice test is based on Chapter 7 of the official CDL manual, just like the official Double/Triple knowledge test. It’s up to date as of March 2025. The 20 multiple-choice practice questions and answers on this practice test address such topics as air lines, converter dollies, coupling, following distance, rearward amplification, and rollovers.

If you get stuck on a question, ask our AI Assistant to rephrase the question or give you a hint. If you still miss the question, the AI Assistant will immediately give you the correct answer and an explanation. There’s no time limit; take all the time you need to learn and master the material covered by this practice test. Not satisfied with your final score? You can retake this practice test as often as you wish until you’ve mastered the material.

In Kentucky, demand is high for drivers with the Double/Triple endorsement on their CDL. Here are just a couple of examples. In Kentucky as elsewhere, the logistics sector makes great use of double-trailer vehicles. UPS Worldport and FedEx use double trailers to move packages between sorting facilities. Automobile and other manufacturers use double trailers to transport raw materials or finished products. Retailers like Walmart, Target, Kroger, and Meijer use double-trailer trucks to move high volumes of consumer goods from warehouses to distribution centers and stores.
