Earning your Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) in Louisiana involves passing the Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test, passing the CDL General Knowledge Test, holding a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) for a minimum of 14 days, and passing the behind-the-wheel Skills Test (in a combination vehicle). Note that before you may take the on-the-road skills test, Louisiana law also requires you to complete Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) from an FMCSA-approved provider.
The Louisiana Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test includes 20 multiple-choice questions, and you’ll need to answer at least 16 correctly (80%) to pass. If you miss more than four questions, you must wait at least one business day before retesting and may need to pay a retest fee.
This third Free Louisiana CDL Combination Vehicles Practice Test is based on the latest Louisiana CDL Manual and mirrors the structure and difficulty of the official OMV test. You’ll study safe driving practices for combination vehicles, air brake operation and inspection, coupling and uncoupling procedures, prevention of skids and jackknives, and inspection procedures for combination vehicles. This practice test is expert-designed to help you pass on your first attempt. Once you master this one, try another practice test here: https://driving-tests.org/louisiana/la-cdl-combination-test/.
Getting your Class A CDL isn’t just about earning another credential. That’s not really why you’re doing this. It’s about opening new career opportunities and potentially increasing your earnings. With major trucking routes along Interstates 10, 12, 20, and 49 and U.S. Routes 61 and 90, Louisiana’s economy depends heavily on oil and gas, petrochemicals, agriculture, and seafood exports. Each of these sectors depends on combination-certified CDL drivers! Now, that’s some amazing job security!
To fully qualify for most combination-vehicle positions, you’ll also need to pass the Air Brakes Knowledge Test, since most combination vehicles use air brakes. We also offer Louisiana Air Brakes Practice Tests to help you succeed there: https://driving-tests.org/louisiana/la-cdl-air-brake-practice-test/.
Finally, you should give thought to adding endorsements like T (Double/Triple Trailers), N (Tank Vehicles), H (Hazardous Materials), X (Combination Tanker and Hazmat), P (Passenger), and S (School Bus). Try one of our endorsement practice tests here: https://driving-tests.org/louisiana/la-cdl-hazmat-practice-test/.
A Louisiana Class A CDL sets you apart and opens access to high-demand, higher-paying driving positions. Use our complete suite of Louisiana CDL practice tests to get started today!
