Louisiana requires every prospective school bus driver to meet federal and state safety requirements before ever transporting children. Two of the major requirements are passing the Louisiana OMV School Bus "S" Endorsement Knowledge Test and passing a hands-on skills test conducted in a school bus. State law also requires a fingerprint-supported background check, and individual school districts may add their own evaluations or steps. Because student passengers fall under both the school bus and passenger-transport categories, every applicant must also pass the Passenger "P" Endorsement Knowledge Test. That is quite a task list; however, rest assured that our team of subject experts has carefully constructed a set of resources to guide you along the way.

For your knowledge exam, our Louisiana CDL School Bus "S" Endorsement Knowledge Practice Tests eliminate the fluff found in other resources and get straight to what matters most for passing the test. Driven by an AI-powered response system, our practice tests mirror the structure and pacing of the official exam. Each practice session includes an interactive CDL Manual and a personalized Challenge Bank that returns missed questions until you’ve mastered each topic. When you complete each practice test, a results page spotlights any weak areas so you know exactly where to focus. National data shows the most frequent and serious risks as they pertain to school bus safety. As such, the official exam focuses on driver practices to minimize these risks. Most student injuries occur in "danger zones" surrounding the bus (areas extending up to thirty feet in front and twelve feet around the sides and rear). Hence, the test focuses on loading and unloading procedures. Drivers must understand how to achieve complete visibility through proper mirror technique, continual scanning, and anticipation of student movement.

The official exam covers controlled stops, securing the bus during student entry and exit, and monitoring children as they walk toward or away from the vehicle. Drivers are expected to watch for clothing or backpacks catching on handrails and ensure every student is fully clear of the bus before leaving the stop. Other major topics include proper mirror use, safe handling at railroad crossings, traffic-flow judgment, emergency evacuation decisions, student management, and required post-trip inspections.

Most full-size school buses use air brake systems, which means applicants should also prepare for the Air Brakes Knowledge Test: https://driving-tests.org/louisiana/la-cdl-air-brake-practice-test/.
