- Perfect for first-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants, and those adding endorsements
- Based on 2025 ME commercial driver's license manual
- Triple-checked for accuracy
- Updated for August 2025
To become a licensed commercial driver in Maine, you must meet several requirements and complete the licensing process. You may begin driving commercially in the Pine Tree State at 18, but crossing state lines and transporting passengers or hazardous materials aren’t allowed until you’re 21. All applicants must hold a valid driver’s license, provide identification documents, and pay the licensing fees. The DOT Medical Exam ensures you meet the physical standards necessary for this profession. This exam is required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and must be done by a certified medical examiner listed on the National Registry.
The official general knowledge exam has 50 multiple-choice questions. You must answer them before the timer runs out and score 80% or higher to pass. After passing this test, you will receive a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP), which you must hold for at least 14 days. FMCSA mandates Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) for all aspiring commercial drivers in the United States. You must complete this training before you can schedule and take a skills test.
If you are interested in obtaining a Class A CDL, you must pass two more knowledge tests. The official combination vehicles written exam will evaluate your understanding of the safe operation of combination commercial vehicles. Since most semi-trucks are equipped with air brakes, you must also pass the official air brakes knowledge test to be able to legally drive them.
Our Maine CDL Class A Practice Test can help you master commercial driving theory efficiently. It consists of 93 questions based on the official Maine Commercial Driver’s Manual (Maine CDL Handbook 2025). Unlike the official exam, this practice test is not timed. Please avoid rushing and finish each session at your own pace. To reflect the latest updates brought by DMV rules or state law, we have recently updated this practice test for August 2025.
Start today and train with this practice test for several weeks. Commercial driving theory takes time to master, so you shouldn’t expect overnight results. With unlimited attempts and nonstop access, our Maine CDL Class A Practice Test can be a game-changer when used regularly.
